J. JARAMILLO INSURANCE

Headquartered in San Juan, Puerto Rico and registered under the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, J. Jaramillo Insurance (JJI) was founded in 2009 by Mr. Juan J. Jaramillo-Medina and an executive team with over 100-years of combined experience in the insurance industry: María Alejandra Valona, Ana ‘Chiqui’ Pérez and María Silvia Vargas.

AN EXCEPTIONAL BEGINNING

After a considerable period of monitoring global insurance trends and analyzing the local market, Mr. Jaramillo knew that Puerto Rico did not need another “traditional” managing general agent. Taking advantage of sudden opportunities presented even in a year known as one of the most financially challenging to this generation, JJI was able to evolve based on establishing relationships, offering an array of non-traditional services, and writing 100% of its premiums from business that comes from its independent agents and brokers, in other words, no direct business. This provided the foundation for the identity established early on and the creation of the business model that has driven JJI forward.

GROWTH BUILT ON QUALITY

Today the firm has expanded through the principles of service with integrity and commitment to quality. In spite of strong competition, the firm has grown both organically and through strategic alliances to establish itself as the largest independent insurance managing general agent in Puerto Rico, staffing over 40 specialists that manage the capacity of key admitted insurers in the territory. As JJI’s founder emphasizes: “When it comes to placing a risk, we want to be known as the ‘Lloyd’s of London of Puerto Rico’. No risk will leave our firm unplaced.”
