Ms. María Silvia Vargas Ayala became Senior Vice President and Member of the Board of Directors of J. Jaramillo Insurance in the spring of 2011. She works along with the President guarding the firm’s business model, implementing the strategic plans and designing growth strategies. In addition, she leads the only product development and actuarial consulting services division available to insurers, agents and brokers in PR offered through an MGA platform.

Ms. Vargas has been in the insurance industry for over 20 years. She started her insurance career in the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico, where she became the Chief Actuary of the Property & Casualty Actuarial Department for most of the 11 years of her tenure in the regulatory sector of the industry. Later on, Ms. Vargas started her insurance journey in the private sector by joining the PR subsidiaries of Assurant, a multinational primary insurer, becoming the Appointed Actuary for their Property & Casualty and Life & Health group of domestic companies. Ms. Vargas provides both regulatory and private perspectives of the insurance industry, which has given JJI a unique competitive advantage when it comes to offering consulting services to both private insurers and government agencies.

Ms. Vargas holds a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science and Insurance from The College of Insurance in New York and a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Mathematics from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. She is a member and a qualified actuary of the American Academy of Actuaries.
